The Start Of The New Year
A Blog, well I know its old hat, but, hey so am I. I have been meaning to write a blog post for a while now, so here I am, getting my hand back into writing.
Not many people know this, but I have been writing for over five years now, and all going well I hope to publish my first book, this year. I really wanted to publish about three years ago, but, you know, life gets in the way. My Dad used to always tell me ‘Life is what happens when you are busy making plans’. How true don’t you think? Do not worry I am not going to write about all my broken bones, old age, arthritis, not enough hours in the day, poor sleep patterns, I mean, come on, we are all enjoying the changes in our bodies as we get older, right? Yes, I am smiling as I write this.
I hope you enjoy my blog going forward, I appreciate criticism or feedback of any sort. But please do not be rude to me, I am putting myself out there.
SO, Here We Go…. I am going to start from the first of January 2025. (With the exception of last year, when we celebrated the ‘bells’ with dear friends of ours) Robert and I do not wait up to ‘see the new year, or wait for that tall dark handsome man, first footer’. We enjoy getting up early and heading off into the hills on foot or by mountain bike. Sometimes we set off to watch the sunrise along the coast somewhere. Usually armed with hot milky coffee, filled breakfast rolls, Christmas cake, and the obligatory wee bottle of fizz. This year was unseasonably warm and delightful to have the sunshine as we made our way up the hills behind our village. Red Kites surfed the air waves above us, due to the calm windless day we could see them clearly, as they were unusually low in the sky, their elegant feather tips reaching out effortlessly carrying their impressive bodies. It was very tranquil watching these beautiful birds and enjoying the over whelming silence of the hills, when a rustle and disturbance in the undergrowth to the left of us drew our attention. At first, we both thought it was a baby dear, (we often come across them on the mountain bikes) all we could see was shape and colour of a body moving and bouncing, until it came out into a clearing, and stopped to look back at us. It must have been right next to us when we stopped to watch the Kites. It was not too frightened, more wary, but I think it read our thoughts and wanted to make sure we could see the difference between hare and deer!! So, the first morning of the New Year was soothing, calming and invigorating. We walked for two hours up, up and away, before settling on a spot to pop the cork, toast, sip and munch before heading back down. A good three hours walk indeed. The rest of the day consisted of more munching, toes toasting by the fire and a good bottle of red with a delightful meal. Robert and I are incredibly lucky to be best friends as well as a married couple. We enjoy cooking, candles, music, and hours of chatting, we laugh a lot and always find things we giggle at, (usually our own silly antics) we do at times have a wee dance in the kitchen, although Robert, is, and he will agree, a terrible dancer, so it’s all a very ‘modern waltzing’, so modern it’s like nothing you have seen!! So, I can honestly say the first day of 2025 was one that best describes us…to a T !
